Three Comrades

Three Comrades

February 14, 2017 Novel

Remarque is truthful. Remarque leaves no illusions. It is a heartfelt, sincere novel about friendship and love. Remarque makes you experience the whole range of feelings. On each page there are quotation or thoughts that came to us during sleepless nights .. And it turns out that we think the same way … Some words about the main characters. I liked them with all my soul. They are comrades for better or worse. And it is proven by their actions. Having passed through the war, they will not be separated from each other. They life will not change their relationships. They can do anything. But on the book pages there is an atmosphere of tragedy. In every line, in every phrase, there is something that hurts my heart. But I learned Remarque well. He does not give up hope. But three comrades go through life, and as long as they are together, nothing will happen to them. They need to be together. It’s just necessary. But does we always have what we need? The nascent feeling that overcomes cynicism turns into true love. Real love where there is a place for trust and understanding, where one simply understands another, only looking into his eyes. But how they did not want to admit to themselves to this love! And the question that they asked each other: “Do you love me?”, they answered “No”. And no one resented, everything was understood correctly. Yes, Remarque leaves no illusions. But he is not violent. Remarque is a philosopher telling us about life the way it is. The novel includes not only love. Remarque shows us the fates of different people, allowing us to look closely at them. Each with his own pain and hope. There is no sense to retell the plot, many already know it, if not for the novel itself, then for its no less well-known adaptation. Yes, even if start to do this, it will be impossible to avoid spoilers. Three Comrades is a book for ages and it will be relevant at all times. It consists of eternal things which are always present in life, but for many people they remains something elusive, something that is hard to believe – real friendship and no less real love. This novel does not have a single piece of falseness or any kind of controversy. Even the ending, no matter how much it upset the reader, is the one that should be, because the world is not perfect and in things very rarely happens the way you want.
